Damp Powder and Doomseeking

Having mentioned and sang songs of the wonders of the optional black powder weapon misfires last week, I thought it'd be a shame not to discuss another house rule we've introduced to our campaign. Our logic meant that maintaining the costs of black powder weapons was due to their rare and technologically cutting edge nature. It flowed that the Dwarfs of the Warhammer world would have gain more of a mastery of these volatile weapons - and with the option of an engineer we felt, we needed an answer.

Dwarf engineers pride themselves on their constructions. They are dwarven made, and as such flawless. Only an imbecile worthy of a slayer’s death would fail to in their duty top maintain these fine weapons. Perfect.

"Engineers Pride"

If Black powder special rules are in play, a warband containing a Dwarf Engineer may choose to re-roll any 1s to hit, this avoids the failure of the weapon, however if the shooting model rolls a 1 again the Engineer receives an Engineers Shame token, and the weapon failure is calculated as normal.

An Engineers shame token can never be removed – Dwarfs have incredibly long memories. If an Engineer accumulates 3 Engineers Shame tokens, they have failed as an engineer and brought shame on their family and dwarven engineering through their careless maintenance. This Engineer retains their profile with the following exceptions – they can no longer use ranged weapons, the skills available to them are now those available to a slayer, and they lose Expert Weaponsmith. They now gain all Troll Slayer special rules and may access troll slayer skills. This new Slayer does not count towards your maximum Slayers, and is does not count as a your Engineer choice.

Happy mayheming!
